Connectivity on SkyTrain Continues to Improve for Rogers and Fido Customers
Rogers brings wireless service to tunnels between Columbia and Sapperton stations
VANCOUVER, Aug. 2, 2017 /CNW/ - Rogers and TransLink today announce that a new LTE wireless service has been turned on at the Columbia SkyTrain station, as well as in the tunnels between Columbia and Sapperton station. This enhanced service helps keep people connected across Metro Vancouver and improve their experience on their transit journey.
Rogers and Fido customers can now surf the internet, make and receive calls, send and receive emails and text messages, stream video and music and more on their mobile devices while travelling on this part of the Expo Line.
"Our customers want to stay connected wherever they are," said Perm Jawanda, Regional Vice-President, Rogers Communications. "That's why we're committed to investing in communities across B.C. Now, whether you're taking the SkyTrain to the Royal Columbian Hospital, travelling home or to work in the growing Brewery District, customers will have the convenience of being able to use their phones seamlessly."
The Rogers network also provides essential emergency wireless coverage to all SkyTrain riders, so they can access 911, regardless of their carrier.
"This is the third project across our system that has improved connectivity in the tunnels and we are pleased to share this milestone with customers," says Derrick Cheung, Vice-President Strategic Sourcing and Real Estate, TransLink. "We continue to work with Rogers to complete the build out of wireless coverage along the Millennium Line in the Evergreen tunnel and provide customers across the system with an enhanced and connected customer experience."
This is the latest phase in LTE and voice access expansion along the SkyTrain system, first made available to SkyTrain customers in the Dunsmuir Tunnel in July 2016 and in the Edmonds Tunnel in November 2016. Rogers will also expand wireless service to the Evergreen tunnel on the Millennium Line.

"Now, customers can access information about their car and family member location right at their fingertips no matter where they are. By simply checking the Rogers Smart Drive app, they can know their elderly parent is getting safely to the grocery store or why the 'check engine' light turned on. Built by ZTE and powered by Mojio's open platform for connected cars, the Rogers Smart Drive device is compatible with most vehicles built after 1996 and simply plugs into the car's On Board Diagnostic (OBD-II) port. Customers can purchase the device for $99 on a two-year term and add it to their Share Everything plan for $15/month, plus they get a 1 GB bonus of shareable data for 12 months.

Rogers Media Expands CityNews Across Canada
– In addition to Toronto, the award-winning local news broadcast will now serve viewers in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Montreal –
TORONTO, June 5, 2017 /CNW/ - Building on its commitment to deliver more local news to even more Canadians, Rogers Media will expand its award-winning news program, CityNews™, across Canada, beginning September 4. Currently seen in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, the expansion of CityNews will now include local versions of CityNews produced locally and airing daily on City, in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Montreal.
The one-hour newscasts will broadcast seven days a week with CityNews at Six at 6 p.m., and CityNews Tonight at 11 p.m. local time. Newscasts in Edmonton and Winnipeg will debut Monday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. local time. CityNews will expand into the Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary markets in Winter 2018.

Debuting in Toronto in 1975, the multi-award winning CityNews has been globally recognized as a trailblazer for news innovation, earning accolades for its local coverage including the esteemed RTDNA National Bert Cannings Award for Best TV Newscast in a Large Market in 2016. Late last month, CityNews reporter Cynthia Mulligan won the national RTDNA Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity in Reporting for her in-depth series on Danica Rain – a transgender Ontario woman who underwent gender reassignment surgery at a clinic in Bangkok.
"Staying true to the hard-hitting journalism that CityNews is known for, the content will focus on viewer-driven, original stories introduced by local reporters," added Budge.

Joe Natale to join Rogers April 19, 2017
TORONTO, April 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Rogers Communications today announced that Joe Natale will join as President and Chief Executive Officer on April 19, 2017, after a confidential agreement was reached with TELUS Corporation to secure his early arrival.
"We are very pleased to have Joe join Rogers," said Alan Horn, Chairman of the Board of Rogers and Interim President and CEO. "Joe is a highly respected and proven executive with deep experience delivering strong financial results in a competitive and complex industry."
Natale, a well-known executive in the Canadian telecommunications industry, most recently served as President and CEO of TELUS where he held progressively senior roles since joining the company in 2003.
"I'm really excited to join the Rogers team," said Natale. "The history of the company, the incredible mix of assets, and the growth potential are second to none. I look forward to working with Alan and the team to build on Ted's legacy and the incredible progress the company has made."
Natale will be appointed to the Rogers board at its Annual General Meeting next week.

Two new towers in Kelowna area provide increased wireless coverage for Rogers and Fido customers
VANCOUVER, April 4, 2017 /CNW/ - Rogers today announced it has expanded wireless service near Mount Boucherie and Upper Okanagan Mission, making it easier for Rogers and Fido customers to use maps to navigate the Lakeshore Wine Route, share a photo from the bleachers of Jim Lind Arena, or make a call from West Kelowna City Hall.
"We're investing in our wireless network to make sure our customers have access to our world-class LTE service in more places," said Perm Jawanda, Vice-President, Partner Retail Sales, Rogers Communications. "Whether you live in Kelowna or are in town to tour the city's famous wineries or catch a hockey game, our customers want to be able to connect with the people and things that matter to them, in more places. As communities in the B.C interior keep growing, we're committed to continuing to improve service for our Rogers and Fido customers."
Now, residents in the growing communities around Mount Boucherie and Upper Mission in South Kelowna, as well as people visiting Royal LePage Place, Jim Lind Arena, and West Kelowna City Hall, will have more seamless access to Rogers LTE service.
"With this wireless service expansion, Rogers is investing in the Kelowna region's future as the community continues to grow," said Amrik Virk, Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens' Services. "Whether you're a local resident or visiting on holiday, you will always be connected to your loved ones, government services, learning opportunities and the world."
"This expanded coverage is great news for Kelowna residents and for visitors to our great city," said Doug Findlater, Mayor of West Kelowna. "Families and businesses will benefit from more seamless wireless service throughout the region."
LTE, the fastest generation of wireless service in Canada, provides stronger, more consistent data speeds, similar to high speed broadband home Internet. With LTE, customers can stream and do more on the go with less buffering. The improved service also provides HD quality voice services when using a device enabled with VoLTE, the latest voice technology. In addition, Rogers has turned on 700 MHz spectrum, the beachfront real estate of spectrum, in these areas. 700 MHz spectrum provides better coverage in hard to reach places like basements, elevators and buildings with thick concrete walls, meaning customers will have a stronger LTE signal on their device and will be less likely to lose LTE coverage and drop to lower data speeds.
